Martin Truex Jr. Las Vegas Preview

CORNELIUS, N.C. — This weekend Martin Truex Jr. and his No. 56. NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Crew Chief Pat Tryson plan to compete in more than just Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS). On Thursday Truex, along with several NASCAR celebrities, will take part in the Martin Truex Jr. Charity Poker Tournament at the Monte Carlo Resort & Spa. On Sunday the Michael Waltrip Racing duo hope to repeat their strong run last weekend at Auto Club Speedway minus the mechanical troubles that ruined what appeared to be a top-10 finish.

QUOTES

TRUEX ON HIS CHARITY POKER TOURNAMENT ON THURSDAY: “The last two years I have had a lot of fun hosting poker tournaments in Atlantic City to benefit my foundation. This year, I’ve added another event for Las Vegas. It’s happening at the Monte Carlo Resort & Spa on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. PT. It’s going to be a lot of fun — Michael (Waltrip), Pat Tryson, Marcos Ambrose, Frank Kerr and Kurt Busch are playing. If you’d like more information, please visit my site: www.martintruexjrfoundation.org.”

TRUEX ON RACING AT LAS VEGAS: “I like the track since they repaved it a few years back. It is another one of those tracks that I find challenging because when they paved it, they put a bunch of bumps in it. It makes the racing difficult especially when trying to get your car to turn. It has a lot of grip. It is very fast with the progressive banking. I think it is a lot of fun to race on.”

PAT TRYSON ON KEEPING THE TEAM PUMPED UP AFTER CALIFORNIA: “It’s all good for us right now. The biggest part of it all was we had a fast NAPA Toyota. As long as you are fast, it makes it a lot easier when something like an engine lets go. If we would’ve had a slow car at Fontana, then we might have been a little more disappointed. I think everybody on the team feels if we would’ve been able to have run all day, we would’ve had a shot to win the race. I think that’s all you can ask for.”

TRYSON ON VEGAS: “Vegas will be different in comparison to the Auto Club Speedway. It’s more like Charlotte and Atlanta so I think we’ll be good there. I think we’ll see more pit strategies come into play like two-tire stops. It should be fun.”
